"Christmas Tree" Strategy

Another common way to play groups of games (parlays) is to pick "key" games and rotate the rest of the picks around them. "Key" games are your best picks in which you are sure almost 100%.

Let's consider an example. Say, we have 6 good picks. We could play them all on a single ticket but we want to increase our chances to win. With that purpose in mind, we select one "key" game out of our 6 picks. This "key" game will be present in each ticket we play. Now we have 5 games left to rotate. We will further split these games into two more groups: 2+3. Now we have 3 groups of games. If we take one game out of each group, we will have a 3-games parlay ticket. This is exactly, what we are going to do.

For illustration purposes, the groups can be piled up on each other to form a Christmas tree as shown in the picture below:

In this tree, our "key" game is on top. In order to win, we must be 100% correct about this game. Games 2 and 3 have 50% chances. Games 4, 5, and 6 have 33% chances.

In other words, to get at least one winning ticket, we must be correct on one game from each group: game 1 + either game 2 or 3 + one of games 4, 5, 6.

To play this combination we will need to buy six 3-game tickets. At $2 per ticket we would have to spend $12. Therefore, one winning ticket will cover our expenses.

There can be any number of "keys" and games in each group.
