"Box'em" Strategy

This strategy allows one to skip over unpredictable games. This is probably the most popular and straightforward strategy of all. The objective here is, out of a group of games, to select “key” games (the most predictable ones) and to “box” (“revolve”) the rest. Since we are boxing the unpredictable games we call this type of play “Box’em” strategy.

Example #1: Let's say we are going to play a 3-games ticket. We are sure that Home teams will win in Game 1 and Game 2 but are not so sure about the outcome of Game 3. Therefore, we are “boxing” Game 3 or in other words we play two tickets. On one ticket, in Game 3, we select Home team to win and on the second ticket we select the Visitor (see the table below).

So, once we got right Game 1 and Game 2, we have one winning ticket.

Example #2: In this example, we will use “Box’em” strategy to play NFL Pro*Picks Pools. As you probably know, in Pro*Picks Pools one has to select straight up winners out of all Sunday and Monday games.

To simplify our example, we say that there are 13 games on the board and out of these games we are able to name 6 sure winners.

Using “Box’em” strategy we key in our 6 winners-to-be and “box” the remaining 7 games.

To further simplify our example, we say that all our “key” teams are playing at home and they are numbered 1 to 6. In this case our picks would look like this:

Game 2 Home

Game 3 Home

Game 4 Home

Game 5 Home

Game 6 Home

Game 7 Home or Visitor

Game 8 Home or Visitor

Game 9 Home or Visitor

Game 10 Home or Visitor

Game 11 Home or Visitor

Game 12 Home or Visitor

Game 13 Home or Visitor

Thus, we are going to have a bunch of tickets with every ticket having games 1 through 6 as Home Winners and all possible combinations where games 7 through 13 are shown either as Home or Visitor. Therefore, regardless of the outcome of games 7-13, if our 6 key teams win, we are going to have one winning ticket matching the results of all games on the list.

Members of PlayAlot.ca can “box” any number of games in any sequence. Naturally, the greater number of “boxed” games will produce the greater number of tickets. The number of tickets required for each play is calculated on the fly.
